Ugly site

Ok, so the general consensus is my new layout sucks major ass. It has earned to descriptions: "ugly" "fugly" "cheesy" amongst others. It's also not very browser compliant as it shows up differently in different browser. So away it shall go. In the meantime, please ignore the ugliness. Anyone out there wanna donate a decent site layout? :)

Moving Servers

Alright, the great server move of hunsinger.org is in effect. I've already moved some of the other hosted sites on hunsinger.org to my other domains which are already on the other server. Now it's time to move the more important sites, mine and britni's. Mine's going first in order to test, cause I have a subdomain. So I apologize if it was a little trouble getting here, you just happened to hit my site in the few hours that it took DNS to propogate and me to set things up again. I'm still debating on a new layout. This one seems to dislike my mozilla. :P

Weekly Log File Analysis

Just finished the weekly logfile analyzing to see who visits my sites, how they come in, and what gets looked at. (Don't worry, I don't bother figuring out who saw what) In the last 13 days I've had:

Total Hits 39,991
Average Hits per Day 2,856
Total Visitors 6,964
Average Visitors per Day 497
Total Unique IPs 3,416
Total Bandwidth 287.04 MB

Not too shabby. This includes all of the sites under hunsinger.org, including Britni's. A large portion of these hits are from web development, but there's still quite a surprising number of people coming here. People from all over the world too (50+ countries based on DNS). But the most interesting, as always, are the search terms that bring people here. The winner this time is: how can i have fun withmy gerbil which is unfortunately an out of date page that has been incorporated into MovableType that can be found here. Also in Search Terms news, Britni is the number 1 search term that brings people here. :) Thanks hun!

In other news, a new job possibility on the horizon, but I won't say anything for fear of jinxing it. :)

New account!

So I've gone and upgraded my hosting package. The deal was too good to pass up and it was a limited time offer. So now I'm going to be hosting all of my sites through one account. :) So stay tuned for the official launches and re-launches of www.navelsex.com, www.wildandcrazyteens.com, and some more goodies. The few hunsinger.org sites might go down temporarily as things are shifted, but hang in there :) Oh, btw, anyone out there need some cheap webhosting for a domain? I can do it :) Just drop me an email

Beer is better for you than milk

Just stumbled across this. PETA has a campaign going that basically says beer is better for you than milk. :) Causing some controversy, although they have a very valid point and are even backed up by Harvard studies.

The HipTop

Ok, I have just seen the latest and coolest thing ever. Bix, the Network Engineer at Denison, got himself a Hiptop / T-Mobile Sidekick thing. It is too unbelievable cool. Yes, it's geeky as hell, yes I want one, more than I've ever wanted a geek toy (besides my own computer when I was 15). When I first heard about this from Bix I thought, "Oh great, another expensive geek toy that I"ll never be able to afford." But after talking to him, it's rather manageable. Only $200 for the unit, and $40 a month for cell phone and unlimited, yes that's unlimited, should I say it again UNLIMITED internet access, always on. That's for the first year, after that the prices will change, but still, definitely worth it. TO be able to walk around with not only a cell phone, but a web browser, an aim client, and irc (sounds like that would take some perl programming :) in my pocket in the size of a small palm. God, I want one. Now I need a job more than ever. This is my next geek purchase. Forget a harddrive, forget a new webcam, no TiVO (yet), don't need cable tv. Hell, I'll take this over a cable modem connection, although just barely :) Alright, as I continue to drool, here's some links to let you educate yourself about what I'm talking about: hiptop411 - Amy Stuff Hiptop - Hiptop Blogs - T-Mobile
Did I mention I want one?

DMCA

The DMCA needs some work, I think most of us can agree on that. But thanks to Slashdot, I stumbled across this site, which looks to be interesting. In short, the DMCA tries to file charges against people in other countries when they break laws in place in the US but not in their home country. Skylarov, the Russian e-book cracker, is one of their latest. Ironically enough, he was recently denied a visa to travel to the US to stand trial. All this was found after reading an article providing yet another example of why the DMCA is stupid.

Starting some work

Today I start my temp work at Denison. I get to sit and chill with Lynnette at the helpdesk from 2:30-6pm every day for the next 3 weeks. :) And as luck would have it, Britni was already signed up to be working part of that time slot as well! So we're both going to be working the helpdesk a few days a week. Anyways, the funniest thing this week is k0rd's creation. The Rhyzzime. Another one of those inside jokes, if you don't know #thecrib you probably won't get it. But it's funny nonetheless if you're familiar with irc.

New Pictures

<GEEKMODE>
Alright, tossed a few new pics in the Photos dir. Also used the lovely Image Magick utility installed on my Linux server to painlessly resize a bunch of them. So I save on bandwidth, and the pics fit on screen. All of the pics should look nice if you're using a resolution of 1024x768, and should be more managable on 800x600, if you're still using 640x480, ouch, I'm sorry. I'm in need of a redesign of the whole photo album thing, so if anyone has any suggestions I'm probably going to get going on programming that. I'd much rather write my own scripting for it than use someone else's that doesn't mesh with my page well. I'm also debating cutting back the number of pics on here a great deal. I don't know if anyone even bothers looking at many of them. So if you have any thoughts, leave a comment :)
</GEEKMODE>

Poor Britni is sick.. :( I hope she feels better soon. Her parents are coming on Saturday so I best get cleaning! And I could use some sleep. Don't look at what time this was posted. I told you not to look!!!

Regular sleep schedule?

Well, I'm closer to a regular sleep schedule, it's 2am, and I'm actually a little bit tired. :) So hopefully we're closer to some regular hours of sleep. Britni's parents are coming up this weekend so that means I get to clean the apartment tomorrow and Friday. Uggh. Britni has been real upset the past few days, mainly due to stress me thinks. Hopefully things will get better and she'll make it through everything. I just wish I know how to help her and make things right. *sigh* I hate to see her upset.

Observations on Daytime TV

I'm still awake, 24.5 hrs and going... I've had the tv on to keep some sort of stimulus going. Trying to keep myself awake, but not being awake enough to do anything productive. I spent an hour reading files in /etc in linux. And on the tv I've gone from news to soap operas. But the most important observation of the day has been this: About 1/3 (based on an hour of observation) of commercials during daytime tv have something to do with the human excretory system. Ponder that.

Made it this far / Scrubs

Well, about 18 hours under my belt of being awake. I lost des and all the other irc kids to sleep. Britni's first alarm went off, and she promptly requested to snooze another 30 minutes. I figured I ought to post about my new favorite tv show. For those that know me, the fact that I actually like a tv show is somewhat surprising. There's only a few of them around that have managed to get on my good list. That list so far is Simpsons, Family Guy, 24, Newsradio and the newest addition is Scrubs. *gasp* Yes, a show that isn't on Fox, I can hardly believe it myself. "hey wait a minute, this kid is too poor to afford cable." ;) I have every episode from all five of those series to watch at my leisure so no cable is needed. I'm not sure why Scrubs has become a new favorite, and I'm not even sure why I checked it out in the first place. Probably the lack of cable and the desire for some sort of audio/video entertainment. Besides, I had already gone through every single Newsradio episode in order (Britni and I are working on Simpsons now, although in a poorly organized order). But anyways, Scrubs is a good show, a bit odd at times, but that's probably why I like the humor. Check it out. DivX copies are probably available on your neighborhood P2P service, or I can help you out. Oh and if you want to catch it on TV, it's on NBC's, although I have no clue which night, maybe thursdays. The second season is two episodes in. :)

Up All Night

here we go, gonna try to stay up all night and most of tomorrow so I can go to bed at a normal bedtime tomorrow, err tonight. I've been getting to bed around 6-7am lately, and then waking up anywhere from noon to 6pm. That's not good. :( So tonight I program, surf the web, talk on irc, and eat peanut butter and jelly. Dad floated me a loan so the money worries have lessened. Bills are paid (except the annoying $7 gas bill) and I went and got some bread and sandwich stuff. So things are alright. Talked to mom tonight and let her know that the job had fallen through last week. She had sent me a nice "congrats" card, while I know the thought and love behind it, it was still a bummer to get in the mail. Just another reminder of my constant inability to acquire a job. But I'm not going to let myself get bummed out more. As much as it sucks now, I've still got a lot of things going for me. So while I toil in the world of job searching I've been keeping myself busy with the following: WildAndCrazyTeens (no it's not porn)., of course the AIM bot, and a new project of Divk0rd Inc, a newsgroup searcher. k0rd already started on this one while I've been working on WCT so I've got some catching up to do. Anyways, off to amuse myself on the internet.

True Pirates

VCD pirates take to the high seas to avoid detection - saw this on slashdot tonight. Kinda cool how the new term is actually coming back around to meet up with the old term. Reminded me of a joke. (For the record Britni "did not" laugh at this hehe :)

A pirate walks into a bar with a steering wheel attached to his crotch. He approaches the bar and slowly sits down. The curious bartender turns to him and hesitantly asks "Sir, do you know there's a steering wheel attached to your crotch?" To which the pirate replies, "Arrrr, it's driving me nuts!"

Hacking, and rebuilding

Well, tonight was spent dealing with an exploitation of GreyMatter which allowed someone shell access to the server I'm hosted on. After some research and fixing that I sent out some emails to people who had been exploited by the same guy. Hope they helped. After that I went to work on rebuilding Britni's site. Completely overhauled it. Switched to MovableType and redid the layout in my hacked together sort of fashion. Mind you all of it was done in notepad. I still can't bring myself to use a webpage editor. Maybe one day. So that's all done, go check out her new site. Next task, resizing images so I'm using less bandwidth, oh and figuring out how to keep bandwidth on the live webcam down (besides leaving it off).
I made a tasty cheese burger tonight. Mark it down as another time Ed has cooked and hasn't burned anything down. I also watched Jilly get warned up to 99%. Why do people feel the need to warn a bot? Are they not intelligent enough to just block her and go on with their life? Oh well, Jilly retaliates and warns them right back, and then the multiple screennames we have lets us warn them even more if they're being total dicks.
My outlook on things may not be so great, but at least I'm keeping busy. :)

Life hits a low point

As I settled into bed, finishing my bowl of ramen and an episode of simpsons after a long night, I heard the phone ring. Not wanting to get out of bed for fear that it was job related and I was not in the state of mind for this sort of call, I let the machine pick it up. Just as I dreaded. The IBM/Bank One job is a no-go. Congratulations world, you've beaten me. Four fucking months of keeping a good attitude while trying to find a job with no luck has now come to an end. Coming so close, to the point where I spend 45 minutes filling out paperwork, several hours of driving and phone calls, and pissing in a goddamn cup, and this is where I end up. So much for a positive attitude. All it's gotten me to is sitting in my apartment, with almost no food, a steadily dwindling money supply, bills continusouly coming, and no fucking idea what to do next. What now?

New Button

Ahh, late night geeking... I went and made a trendy little link button for myself for those two or three people out there that link to me. If you can id the background on it, props to you. If you can't, it's from a My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult album "13 Above the Night." If you've never heard Thrill Kill Kult, go check them out. And feel free to grab the button and link to me. You can link to the image rather than drop it on your own server because I'll probably end up changing it again when I get bored with it. That way you won't have to redo your links. Or if you want, put it on your own server so the image is guarenteed to be there.

Thank you Fuzzy!!

Mmmmm new monitor.. no longer am I looking at the world of computers through a blue or red tint with a high pitch squeal. Not to mention 19" monitor.. mmmm Of course I instantly jacked up the resolution to 1600x1200 but soon found out I was unable to read the text when I leaned back in my chair. That won't do. So I"m back to the tried and true 1280x1024, but on a bigger monitor. :) So all in all THANK YOU FUZZY! :) Everyone got vote for his webcam or something. :)

Thanks mom!

Woohoo! Thanks Mom! hehe, even though she'll never see this. :) I went and checked my mail (the real kind) yesterday and found a card from mom in there, along with $20. That'll help out with the stretch I have before my first paycheck, if I ever have a first paycheck. :( I also got ambitious last night and this morning, err afternoon. I rearranged my apt some, and actually finished my unpacking. I think I am basically unpacked finally. I also got really bored and organized my cd jewel cases for my music cds. I got so anal retentive that not only did I split them into boxes (cases w/ cd, ceses w/o cds) I also alphabetized them. Yeah, sad I know, but what else am I going to do. Called about a nice government job ($19/hr) but the woman on the other end said that it had to go through some union bullshit (my words, not hers) first before an external (me) candidate had a chance. *sigh* So that job looks like a deadend. I'm still hoping on the IBM/Bank One/ARC job now. *sigh*

Money woes

Wow, things are getting tight. I'm not sure how I'm going to make it if I don't get this job. Bank accounts are drained, credit card is maxed, student loan repaymet starts Nov, and I have $100 in cash to my name. I've never had it this tight before. And the weird thing is I'm doing everything I'm supposed to be doing. I've got an inexpensive apt, in a city that should have readily available job. I got my college diploma ("that'll help you get a job"), a B.A. in Computer Science ("there's a lot of money in that field, you should have no trouble finding a job."), and a strong background in computers. When is my luck going to kick in? I know one area I'm extremely lucky in. I have a wonderful, caring, supportive, outstanding, unbelievable partner in my life named Britni. I don't know what I would do without her. Not only is she financially supporting me at this point, she has emotionally, intellectually, and everything else-ally supported me for the past three years. I look back at Denison and I don't see my diploma, or my comp sci, or any of the school work I did. I look at it and see me meeting a wonderful woman who I have come to share my life with. That is the most important thing I gained out of my four years at Denison. That's the reason I'm here in Columbus, OH, steadily plugging away at a seemingly endless job search. She doesn't realize how much she means to me, and that's probably because I don't know how to show it to the extent that I feel it. But I hope that she realizes at least a small portion of my love, appreciation and dedication towards her.

Traffic check

Wow, traffic for september jumped big time.. Not sure why other than my webcam being hosted here as opposed to on my personal computer. Damn this modem :( But I'm up to 250megs of traffic this past month, a long ways away from m limit of 6gigs :) Nice.. :)
