Uggh spam..

After 65 comments on a single post and cleaning out 3600 comments from the database, I finally decided to implement something for the spam in the comments on here. I found a WordPress plugin namedSpam Karma 2, which was recently released. I installed it (aka, upload and activate the plugin) and took a quick look. Tons of settings and looks like it should do the trick.

When activating this plugin I ran into an old WordPress issue I hit time and time again with my plugins. WordPress sometimes won’t listen when I try to activate or deactivate plugins. I will receive a success message about the plugin being activated or deactivated, but it won’t actually perform the action. Usually I resolve this by deleting some plugins from the plugins directory, then activating and reuploading and activating the other plugins. Quite an odd workaround, but it seems to work. Anyone have any ideas on what’s going on?

Found this great article on statistics about domain names. Did you know that all the 3-letter domains are taken? How about that the average length of a domain name is 11 characters? Most name (Joe, Bob, Sally) domains are already snapped up, and that there are more domains with “sex” than “love” in the name. Oh, and more domains start with the letter “s” than any other letter.

Another great web design thing I found today was this page. It gives you the code for 40 different layouts based on CSS. A great way to start with the framework of a site you are designing. I will definitely be putting these to use!

Anyone out there that does any web design knows that you should always keep your surfer’s resolution in mind when developing. I do most of my work on a widescreen laptop, so I usually have to jump on another machine to check the standard 640×480, 800×600, 1024×768 resolutions. I always wanted a utility that would automatically size a window in that size so I could easily check while I develop, but noone ever knew of one. One has finally been found with Sizer. I’ve had it installed for 2 seconds and I already love it. Thanks man!
