My job rocks

Apparently today was the unofficial employee appreciation day at work. Got hooked up with the long awaited, and all too generous "Christmas" bonus, as well as a paycheck wth a nice bit of tha overtime. We had copious amounts of pizza for lunch, and the soda stock was finally replenished. Not only that, but towards the end of the day there was alcohol available in the back lot. but unfortunately I had to head home as Brit isn't feeling well. The poor thing is curled up in bed. I tried to give her toast and water, but all she would take was water and the stuffed monkey. So my night will probably consist of alternating between some CounterStrike, checking on her, and probably some cd burning. Tomorrow I'm getting a new case that's so "bling bling" hehe LED fans, silver case, sound-reactive blue neon, and a window. Yeah, I'm geeky, but I've never quite liked the case I got when I built this new system. Now I'm going to have one to show off. And best of all, it's in my favorite colors, blue and silver. Word.

The coolest software I've found

Do you have more than one computer, and multiple monitors sitting around? I do. I have 6 desktop systems running in my apt now (not including my laptop and britni's comp), I have 4 monitors hooked up to these and was using a combination of VNC and remote desktop to control each one without having to get out of my chair and switch keyboards and mice. I was too cheap to get a KVM switch and the systems are too far apart for that option. So I was dealing with remote admin stuff until tonight when I found the best time-saving device ever and the coolest little piece of software ever. (Does it sound like I like this software?) http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/ Go check it out if you're a geek. If you're not, don't worry, you'll probably just cock your head to the side and look at the rest of us in a weird way like Britni did to me. :) In short what it does is let me control multiple systems with one keyboard and mouse just by moving the mouse off the side of each screen. I start at my linux machine (Equus) and take the mouse right to Omega (scanning Win98 box) then to Zyzzy (webcam machine Windows 2000) then to Euclid (Multimedia/TV box WinXP) and then back to Equus. It's beautiful, just beautiful. No more having to get up and walk over to Euclid, log in, walk back to Equus, load up VNC and connect, and then be able to control what we're outputting to the tv. Not only do I have this setup, but I'm also eating a damn good piece of cake that britni made. :)

I found this amusing

Might as well paste this up here before one of my Linux-hating friends finds it and sends it to me. :) It's a play on the Apple "Switch" ads. :)

23 years old

Less than 5 hours and I'll be 23 years old. I'm old, buy me stuff to make me feel better. :) hehe just kidding. I have gotten requests (primarily from Dad) to put my wishlist back up, so here it is, an updated wishlist from Amazon.

Snuggles

Just a little note to recognize the passing of a childhood friend. Snuggles, the family beagle, was put to rest yesterday. She was old and having trouble getting around and mom decided that it was finally time. She had gotten almost an entire year more than we expected. She was pretty old, maybe 17 or 18 years, I can't really remember when we got her as I can't really remember much of my childhood without her. Even though I haven't gotten to see her but two or three times a year lately, I'm still going to miss her. I grew up with her, fighting with my sister over whose room she would sleep in, watching her run around the house like a nut after getting a bath, watching her take off running across the open fields in Florida, playing tug-of-war with her stuffed animals, and just watching her sneaky little self getting into all sorts of trouble. But most of all I miss the way she was always so happy to see you and would always come to great you no matter how difficult it was for her. Thanks for all the good times Snuggs, hope to see you again sometime, somehow, somewhere.

Uggh

yeah, it's been awhile... a little over a week. Lots of developments in life. hehe nothing too serious though. I received an "eviction notice" from the apartment people. Apparently my Dec rent check got lost in the mail and they aren't happy about it. Bleh. They'll get their stupid money. :P I've also been battling with some sort of sickness. Massive headaches, primarily sinus headaches, stomach doing weird stuff, and multiple nose bleeds. ewww :P I missed a day of work even on Thursday. Work is getting busy, we've got 3000+ clients to upgrade in the next month. With only 10 techs doing it. Lots of work. Let's see what else. Oh, by the gracious generosity of Tom at work, I now have a kick-ass new car computer. He gave me his old eMachines 500mhz eTower. It's the perfect little system to toss in the car. It's powerful enough to do most things I'd want to in the car, but not powerful enough for me to want to keep it in the apartment. hehe This is my 4th car system! So far this one has a Talisman theme that I borrowed and tweaked for my own use. It's only set up for playing mp3s on the system harddrive and doing basic winamp visualizations. I drove to work with visuals that weren't drug or sleep-deprivation related this morning! hehe Let's see, what else. Oh, Britni just got back from visiting at home, and she brought presents. :) she got a 17" black dell flat panel for christmas. I must say I am a little bit jealous, but if I got one, I wouldn't know what to do with all the monster-sized monitors I have laying around the house. Since she got the flat panel, I got my old one back from her, and my apt inventory is now: 7 running computers, 4 working monitors, and no more extra keyboards. :( hehe I actually have run out of keyboards and have had to start ripping them out of servers. Britni also bought me Signs on DVD, and I got a bunch of blank CDs from the Day family. Just in time too as my 100 spindle is dwindling. Dad's christmas presents arrived, and I can't wait to watch all the Back to The Future goodies I have on dvd now. Sean is here, staying for a few days until the dorms open back up tomorrow. He's out with Britni getting Steak and Shake, although they've been gone for quite sometime. Maybe they did go see the strippers without me, the bastards. Alright, I gotta go change the webcam picture, I'm sick of seeing it. Let's see if the creativity is flowing tonight.

Don't you just love our medium?

Finally woke up this afternoon after a long sleep following my little bit of New Years partying. I found that Kaki King's Dad had posted a response to an old post of mine regarding the trip to China I took in 1995. He sent me a link to Kaki's page on the record label she recently signed to! They're going to release her debut CD in April. The site also told me that she plays in the house band for The Blue Man Group in NYC, which I had no idea of. Anyways, I followed some links and finally found where I could buy her cd, which I instantly did. Anyways, everyone needs to go check her music out. She's just plain amazing on the guitar. I just can't wait for her to go on tour and swing by Ohio. Or maybe a trip to New York is in the near future. After all, Britni has kept in touch with Joshua Gabriel, another incredible musician you need to go check out.
